Arrival at BOS- My group took a school bus to Logan International Airport, which was about a 45 minute ride, leaving at 2:30AM (EST). We arrived at terminal B, which is where United uses at KBOS. Our group checked in with the workers at the luggage kiosk, and a lady helped us individually scan and process our passports. We were given our first two boarding passes for flight 389 and flight 1699, the connecting flight and international flight. This process took a good 30-35 minutes. After this, we walked to the security line - which was mostly clear, as it was still very early. Only a few of us had TSA Precheck (I did not), which allows you to pass through security more quickly and with less hassle. The employees scanned our boarding passes as usual, and we continued to load our luggage onto the conveyor belt. Something that was strange was that I received a random security check, but it took approximately 15 minutes for the TSA employee to check my backpack. She took out about 5 items from my bag, including binoculars, a notebook, an apple (which was allowed), a sweatshirt, and a calculator.
Departures in BOS- After we all passed through security, we made our way to the gate, which happened to be gate B22. We relaxed at the couches right around the corner from the gate, for about an hour, since we had gotten there an hour before boarding (regular for domestic flights). My flight from Boston Logan International to Washington Dulles, UA389, was late in terms of departure, and the employees working at the kiosk failed to make any boarding group announcements, leaving my group and I to scurry over to our gate after seeing that boarding was already commencing. Additionally, on UA389, one of the employees mentioned that we would have to have some volunteers to check their bag at the jet way, for no additional charge; however, a few minutes later, he told passengers that it was no longer an option, and began demanding that people give him their bags for checking. This was not only confusing, but quite frustrating.
The Flight- My seat was 32D, an aisle seat. The aircraft was an Airbus A320-200. The entire flight was approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. During the flight, I did not purchase any meals or beverages, and the flight itself was rather nice and uneventful with an on-time landing into IAD, despite the delayed departure. Once arriving at Washington Dulles International, we quickly made our way to our connecting flight, of which you can read about here.
Conclusion- A few issues prior to leaving Boston but other than that a really good flight.
